Controlling activated surface diffusion by external fields

چکیده
A theory is presented for the diffusion coefficient and the hopping distribution of an adatom on a surface in the presence of external fields. Relatively simple expressions are derived for the probability of multiple hops in the exponential hopping limit. This limit is the one which is usually found in the diffusion of a metal atom on a metal surface. In this limit the barrier height (in units of B ) is large compared with the bias created by the field and the energy loss of the particle as it traverses from one barrier to the next. The hopping distribution is obtained for constant and time varying fields in the adiabatic limit. Typically, the presence of an external field will increase the probability of long hops. The magnitude of the field needed to appreciably increase the probability of multiple hops is 108–109 V m−1. © 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Xylene removal from dilute solution by palm kernel activated charcoal: Kinetics and equilibrium analysis
Xylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that is a highly toxic compound. Therefore, it is essential to remove this component from wastewater before discharging it to the environment. In this research work, palm kernel biomass was activated chemically by H3PO4 and synthesized activated charcoal was applied to separate xylene from aqueous media. The prepared activated charcoal was characterized using F...
متن کاملRemoval of Methyl Orange Dye from Aqueous Solution by a Low-Cost Activated Carbon Prepared from Mahagoni (Swietenia mahagoni) Bark
This study utilized Swietenia mahagoni bark–a wood processing industry waste, for the preparation of activated carbon, and then investigated for the removal of methyl orange (MO) dye by the Swietenia mahagoni bark activated carbon (SMBAC). The effect of pH (3–10), adsorbent dose (1–30 g/L), initial MO dye concentration (10–100 mg/L), and contact time (1–240 min) were evaluated...

متن کاملEquilibrium and kinetic study for the adsorption of p-nitrophenol from wastewater using olive cake based activated carbon
The present work was carried out to evaluate the removal of p-nitrophenol by adsorption onto olive cake based activated carbon having a BET surface area of 672 m²/g. The batch adsorption experimental results indicated that the equilibrium time for nitrophenol adsorption by olive cake-based activated carbon was 120min. The adsorption data was modeled by equilibrium and kinetic models. The pseudo...
